Miss Singapore World: from Normal stream to NTU Dean’s List
TNP (14 Sep 08, Pg 8-9) and SMDN (14 Sep 08 Pg 3) featured Ms Faraliza Tan, the reigning Miss Singapore World and a Communication Studies undergraduate student at NTU’s Wee Kim Wee SCI. The report noted that Faraliza has been on the Dean’s List for three consecutive years since 2005, which means she is in the top 5 percent of the cohort. She was once a Normal (Academic) student who worked hard and was eventually transferred to the Express Stream at the end of Secondary One. She aspires to work in broadcast journalism or programme acquisition one day. She has recently completed her six-month professional internship at MTV Asia, where she assisted with the allocation of shows to suitable time-slots, and doubled as an award-presenter during the MTV Asia Awards. She shared that she joined the Miss Singapore World pageant to overcome the insecurity she felt about her looks and to boost her self-confidence.
