I have no words to describe on Wordpress 2.7 interface. An interface that we have been waiting for, especially the dashboard system. All the information about your CMS will be display. The Wordpress team has proofed it again that they are into the leading for the top CMS (blog) publishing system. I just could not wait for the next version 2.7 to be release out.
As you can see from the screenshot, this is one of the types that any webmasters (or blog owners) would like to look for. But, one stuffs is lacking is connectivity of information within the sphere of blogsphere. For example, if the Feed Matt can be configure to receive other, this would be good. As a writers, he/she can used this place an a intelligence scanner on what his other favourite blog has just published or even your rival blogs has published.

Look like things are getting more and more fun as the conference on Bridging Worlds Conference 2008 comes in. I heard that the delegated visited my library this morning. Sadly, my office, Library Technology & Service Division, is too far away from the main library or any other libraries to capture such event. Till today, I don’t really know why IT system librarians have to sit one corner of in the library, isolating themselves from the rest of the world. Apparently, in today’s context, 60% of the library’s operation is fully technology operated via the advent of information technology and communication technology (ICT).
Well, maybe the recent podcast on The Wired Campus below explained “Why Can’t Librarians and IT Departments Just Get Along?”
The differences? Start with gender: Librarians are stereotypically female, and IT staff members are stereotypically male. Libraries have a long tradition, while IT departments are relatively new. Libraries are very mission-driven, IT departments less so.
But the similarities are striking. “There are three major industries that refer to their customers as ‘users’: IT, libraries, and illicit drugs,” says Tech Therapy’s co-host, Warren Arbogast. Going deeper, both IT staff members and librarians often feel like second-class citizens on campuses. Both groups inhabit a rapidly-changing work environment. Both have insecurities about the future of their professions.
Gosh, and my fate? I am now stuck into two worlds. Because, I am an assistant librarian (Library Technology & Systems) and also as business librarian (IT & Operations Management). Does that mean I have a fruits to two worlds?
So which is truth about my career path?
But again, I still feel that graduate school (especially providing librarianship path), they should teach their student IT Strategic Planning. Understanding the important between IT and operation in a strategic alignment model. Well, just like these conference, Bridging Worlds.
Personally, I only feel that the hype is only among the presenters themselves. Is this going to be another presenter get-together sessions?
Well, the organisers should also focus on the delegate. Find out who are their delegates too. I believe are quite equivalent as good as the presenters. Since, they did not cover on their blogs, let’s me focus more on the delegates and their works too. Some of them, of course, and I hope this would be a chain reaction as each delegate starts to introduce another, strategically align the theme with the technology on achieving the objective in:
KNOWING >> LEARNING >> SHARING
Firstly, Kathryn Greenhill. She blogs at librariansmatter.com. I remembered she demonstrated to the Australian’s librarians about 2nd Life and what Librarians can do in the virtual environment. And, it is a live demo. She will be one of the delegate that you guys should say hi if you bumming to her tomorrow and she’s now in Singapore
Next is, I have checked lists again, but .. it seems only that I know Kathryn’s work. The rest are mostly Singaporean librarians. That’s actually brings me to another send of questions:
Does Singapore Librarians afraid to blog & share?
Does the technology competency knowledge of Singapore Librarians is limited?
Or does their library (organisation) does know them to blog?
Or, are Singapore Librarians is just one of this roles: (i) Creators, (ii) Critics, (iiI) Joiners (iv) Spectators or (vi) Inactive. Well, which ever roles we are, it is not easy for us to be a full knowledge workers who align the three elements of knowing, learning and sharing. If this elements take place, this will lead to a knowledge revelation and eventually mobilisation will take in place.
Okay, I purposely show this slide, because there is my name under one of the references.
“Thanks, Ivan. I guess the piece of information that I share with you is quite usefully too. And, I am looking forward to see your presentation tomorrow.”
On the coming 16th & 17th October, Singapore will be playing hosted to the an international event, called “Bridging World Conference 2008″. This event will be held at Hotel Intercontinental Singapore, just beside the National Library building.
“The Bridging Worlds conference is aimed at information/knowledge/culture professionals and educators. It focuses on how the information, knowledge and cultural institutions are responding to the social and information future while continuing to connect with their diverse communities in appropriate spaces, engaging with them to build the culture, information and knowledge dividend.”
A total of 231 attendees from Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Denmark, Germany, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Laos, Lithuania, Malaysia, Myanmar, Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, UAE, UK, USA and Vietnam will be at the conference.
Will there be any well known librarians blogger there?
Yes, Ivan Chew, Singapore’s Rambling Librarian will be presenting a paper. Jenny Levine and John Blyberg from USA, I have been reading and following up on their blog entry. They are here to present too.
In March 2006, John was named a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal. In September 2006, John took First Prize in the Talis Mashing-up the Library competition. While,
Kathryn Greenhill from Murdoch University, Australia will be here too. She a well known librarian who explores Web 2.0 and virtual world in Australia’s librarian stage. The last I saw her was at Melbourne at the VALA 2008 in February.
And the rest I am not to sure.
What about me?
Nope, I am not presenting any papers. This conference is more for those are already in the league. My work is really new and fresh, only 2 years. I will be there to absorb knowledge, adopt and bring back to Hazman Labs Inc., for development and come out a new type next year.
Even though my blog is one of those typical nerd bloggers, I don’t really think I meet the librarian 2.0 requirement. Well, in short, my world has not been bridging yet. I better sit back and just learn.
How can you catch up with Hazman Aziz?
In this conference, since there is Wifi connection, courtesy of iCell Network. This means, I can use my free Singtel access to update you guys. This is the plan:
Twittering … you can check out on my website tabs section, twittering tab. Latest twitter will be appearing there, as I updated through my mobile phone (HTC Touch). Sorry, I don’t have a iPhone yet. Till, an organisation wants to sponsor me.
So what will happen here? I am using either Ping.fm or HelloTxt.com and push out small packets of message on the the internet and it will display on this tab. If you are log into Facebook, a closed community, you will observing my states and updates changes as the screen shots shows below:
Find out what I am updating in Facebook
So, there will two types of communities benefit from the knowledge gain. This will actually align to the theme of the conference:
Knowing . Learning . Sharing
and also the framework of Singapore Library school:
The other librarians are also twittering. So are the organisers. Check out on the tabs to this post.
Maybe, i should start to reveal my Netvibes project, which has been silently build since Project Ginger was initialed. I guess this is really a pure librarian development. As for mine, this project is really set up from the knowledge of a librarian, providing information. There are some tools. You can feedback, but please not report some of the snippet of codes (widgets) are not working well. Because this is really a prototype, that I am planing to build a bridge between commercial freely application and back to library services. Maybe, it is not intuitive enough.
Next, what I will try out video … and see how I can play around with it during this conference. Let’s me play around with the tabs here on Hazman Labs, Inc and see what you can get.

I have decided to release a report on my website. This report might be interested to you as I am revealing (i) how much Hits and (ii) Visits on my website. This report is directly pull out from the server and is not using any 3rd party software installed into the server. Apart from this report, I am also using Google Analytic and StatsCounter.com to track the movements through out my website’s activity. This is important to my work as it justify my efforts in share the knowledge and information that I have seen and awared.
Summary Period: Last 12 Months
Generated 10-Oct-2008 20:40 BST
The hits start to jump in March 2008. This was just the time, I returned back from VALA Conference 2008 in Melbourne.
It was then consistent till September, the hits jump to 111, 415.
A total of 817,278 has visited my website and read my webology stories
More than half a million has visited my website. What does this meant to me?
Looking back at my education path, I am not a genious or a smart guy who excel in my studies. I was from the Normal (Academic) path, going through GCE N and O Level in 1996 and 1997. Web technology has interests me a lot and push me ahead to look into the areas of information science industry. More than half a million visitors have read my website. It does mean a lot to me.
That meant his work in this information science industry is read and view by 817,278 readers. Even if he half of it, to factoring in spiders and bots that crawls into this side. The figure is almost reaching the 500,000 corss line. If that is a returned visits, he would be very happy. And that meant his knowledge is treasured.
After reading this stats and analysing, he is more determined to go in further.
If this …
If this were to convert into monetary values (for example – 1 hits = 10 cents) , just like the leader earnings. 1 citizen per dollar. I would be smiling away with USD817,278 in my bank. And, here what I am going to do … I will only take half of it and the other half I will form an education research funding for information science to grow or sponsor a kid to university. But this was just a mere dream, I will never earn such this figure. I don’t really need so much money to support my life. I prefer to see a kid to go to university using this funding.
BTW, two internet advertising companies had already offered me. I am still factoring them in.

This week my appearance appear again all over the university as the university library banner boy. Along the North Spine walk way, you are able to view this banner below. “Need Research Assistance? Ask Your Subject Librarians”
What does “Need Research Assistance” means?
One of my role in the university is to provide research assistance to the academic community. I have involved and participated in a number of research consultation, giving and provided all the relevant and related source where they able to cite and analyze. Here are some of the research project that I have been consulting:
Financial Technology – Building the subject collection with NBS ITOM Division
Knowledge Mobilisation – with SCI Knowledge Cluster Team
Business Model for Interactive Digital Media - with SCI Knowledge Cluster Team
e-Tourism
e-Government
Building University Portals & e-Learning
Sales of Mobile Models’ dataset
Web 2.0 Development
Library 2.0 in Asia
and many more …
Frankly, I have been working in the information science industry for only 2 years. But, the professional recognistion that I have received is great. My work even travels as far into United States, a country which I am only dreaming to persue my studies further.
This actually bring to the questions …
“Ask Your Subject Librarians” and what does this mean?
I am a subject librarians for information technology and operations management. Armed with my subject domain, and experiences with web development since I was 17 years old, 10 years later I am a consultant to this subject. Working with big partners like Gartner, Jupiter Research and many more. Well if you need help in your research, do feel free to drop me an email.
