Back To Basics …

The Army has called up for this young librarian back to camp, despite he is still reading his librarianship at the university. Hazman Aziz will be going back to his new unit for his first In-camp Training with a new born Infantry Regiment. Being an academic librarian and a section commander, defending the nation’s shores is one of the pertinent role as this citizen.

” … An academic librarian will defend and preserve the finest nation’s academic knowledge in his country’s finest technical knowledge institution.

While, as a Infantry Specialist in the Infantry Regiment, he will defend the shoreline of his country, ensuring life will goes on…”

There are only two reasons for this young librarian to return back to his homeland after seeking knowledge down under. And, only these two reasons, he is standing straight and tall, when the duties call. Best of all, of these reasons, he and other fellow young Singaporeans are ready to serve the nation, just like in the video air last month.

OEDB Lists Out Top 25 Librarian Bloggers

Posted by Hazman Aziz On September - 29 - 2007Comments Off

Thanks to the mailing list from Librarians in Singapore (Google Groups) initiated by the Rambling Librarian and also the author of Treasure Trove of Useless Information . Now, we can know who are the Top 25 Librarian Bloggers.

“At OEDB, we understand the importance of libraries to education and research. In fact, we recently launched our own Library 2.0-themed blog, iLibrarian. Recently, our interest in the amount of blogs authored by librarians begged the question: which librarian bloggers have the biggest reach? With nowhere to turn to answer this question definitively, we thought it would be an interesting exercise to rank all of the biggest blogs by librarians.”

That is cool that we now have a liga of librarians bloggers. If I were to blog about libraries early in the 1997, I will think I am also qualified into this liga. Unfortunately, my librarianship just embarked a year ago. Anyway, there is always next year, to get all these recognition from the society.

On the other hand, it is that important?

That would me a big question point for me.

What must we know about citation? Is it important? What types of citations do we have to do?

Defination of citation:

  1. the pertinent information needed to find the full text of a publication. Citations are provided in bibliographies, indexes, and the lists of references in scholarly works. Citation formats vary according to field of study and/or requirements of particular publications (See: style guide). Citation of a book generally includes: author(s), title, publisher, date. Citation of an article in a periodical generally includes: author(s), article title, source journal title, volume, pages, and date.

  2. information about a publication (book, journal article, video, etc.) that allows someone to identify and locate that publication. Citations for books usually contain the author’s name, the book’s title, place of publication and date of publication. Citations for journal articles usually include the author and title of the article, the title of the journal, the volume number, page numbers and date of publication.
